统计指标

自然指数有三种计量方法来追踪作者的单位信息：

论文计数(article count/AC)-不论一篇文章有一个还是多个作者，每位作者所在的国家或机构都获得1个AC分值。

分数式计量（fractional count/FC）-FC考虑的是每位论文作者的相对贡献。一篇文章的FC总分值为1，在假定每人的贡献是相同的情况下，该分值由所有作者平等共享。例如，一篇论文有十个作者，那每位作者的FC得分为0.1。如果作者有多个工作单位，那其个人FC分值将在这些工作单位中再进行平均分配。

加权分数式计量（weighted fractional count/WFC）-即为FC增加权重，以调整占比过多的天文学和天体物理学论文。这两个学科有四种期刊入选自然指数，其发表的论文量约占该领域国际期刊论文发表量的50%，大致相当于其它学科的五倍。因此，尽管其数据编制方法与其他学科相同，但这四种期刊上论文的权重为其他论文的1/5。

更新方式

根据知识共享协议，自然指数最近12个月的数据快照都在指数网站上滚动发布，以方便用户分析自己的科研产出情况。通过该网站，科研机构可根据大的学科分类浏览自己最近12个月的论文产出情况，各机构的国际和国内科研合作情况也有显示。

过往排名

2016年

2016自然指数排行榜（Nature Index2016Tables）显示，中国是全球高质量科研论文的第二大贡献国，仅次于美国。在自然指数排列前十的国家中，只有中国在2012至2015年期间呈现两位数的年均增长率，并且有些中国大学的年复合增长率高达25%。

自然指数排行榜展示了最近四年的各年度指数，并全部于4月20日首次对外发布。自然指数依据的是各国或各科研机构对每年发表的约六万篇高质量的科研论文的贡献情况，既计算论文总数，又计算不同国家和机构在每篇论文上的相对贡献（计算方法详见“关于自然指数”部分）。

2015年自然指数显示，中国科学院是位居世界首位的科研机构，居第二、三位的是美国哈佛大学和法国国家科研中心（CNRS）。北京大学是在中国位居第一的大学（全球第11位）。而且，南京大学（全球第20位）、清华大学（全球第24位）、中国科学技术大学（全球第26位）、浙江大学（全球第37位）、复旦大学（全球第38位）和南开大学（全球第50位）也跻身全球大学50强。

中国不仅作为一国而言有着高达13%的科研产出增长率，中国一些大学的增长率也非常之高。例如，苏州大学2015年在中国大学中位居第9，2012到2015年期间科研产出的年复合增长率达25%。

自然指数网站可以免费、快速和简便地查阅全球8000多家科研机构和150个国家最近的科研表现。2016排行榜背后的数据依然可免费获取，以方便用户去研究论文发表及合作的模式，并且实时追踪论文的媒体影响力。

伴随自然指数排行榜的发布，新闻板块也已在自然指数网站上线，由自然指数的编辑们就最新的数据，如机构和国家层面的指数表现和信息图，提供持续的编辑分析和评论。分析的内容还包括来自其它信息源的信息，如人口统计数据、国家研发经费投入、科技政策及科研资助的变化等，以便于在特定背景下理解自然指数的数据。

自然指数创始人David Swinbanks对此评论说：“自然指数为分析高质量的科研产出带来了一种免费获取和简明易懂的方法，这对科研界现有的其它衡量标准和评估工具是一个补充。我们聚焦于数量相对较少的高质量论文，并经过了相关学科在职科学家所组成的独立小组的认定，旨在为科研机构、政策制定者、科研分析人员、商业机构，以及更多的科研界人士提供一种针对高质量科研产出的观点。由于已积累了超过四年的数据，自然指数正成为一个日益强大的工具，因为它提供的不仅仅是一个数据快照，而且是每年不断添加的数据，这有助于阐明高质量科研产出和科研合作模式逐步变动的趋势。”

2019年

2019年6月20日，2019自然指数年度榜单正式发布，中国科学院再次位列全球首位。根据此前发布的自然指数数据，中科院已连续7年位列该排行榜全球第一。

此次最新的自然指数是基于2018年1月1日至12月31日的统计数据。该排行榜显示，中科院在全球科研机构综合排名中高居榜首，美国哈佛大学、德国马普学会、法国国家科研中心、美国斯坦福大学分列2~5位。同时，中科院在化学、物理科学、地球与环境科学3个学科领域继续排名第一；在生命科学领域排名全球第5，比上年提升一位。

榜单显示，有43家美国机构和17家中国机构跻身全球100强。其中，中国十家领先的科研机构为中科院（第1）、北京大学（第10）、清华大学（第13）、南京大学（第15）、中国科学技术大学（第17）、中国科学院大学（第24）、浙江大学（第27）、复旦大学（第34）、上海交通大学（第41）、南开大学（第51）。

2020年

2020年4月30日，Nature指数公布了2019年1月1日到2019年12月31日大学/机构排名，也就是说最新的一期世界机构/世界大学学术排名正式出炉。

在世界机构/大学学术排名中，中国科学院位居榜首，其次是中国科学技术大学，北京大学及清华大学。中国科学技术大学在学术领域蝉联高校第一，另外有20个大学/机构顺利挺进全球前100名，南方科技大学首次进入全球100名。

2020中关村论坛重大成果发布会在北京举行。自然指数创始人戴维·斯文班克斯在会上发布了“自然指数-科研城市2020”最新成果。研究数据表明，北京在全球科研城市中再次位列第一，第2至5位分别为纽约、波士顿、旧金山-圣何塞地区和上海。
